SUBS
Please remember that YOU are responsible for getting a sub! Please start by asking athletes playing in the opposite time slot as you (see the roster). If you are stuck, there are a lot of teachers at Claremont that are good volleyball players! Check back soon for a list of staff that would be willing to sub.

Rules & Guidelines
Responsibilities of the Team Captain
All communication and registration will happen through the captain, not individually. The captain is responsible for their team on and off the court - making sure they show up, securing a sub if needed, alerting team members to the schedule, making sure team members have read the rules/guidelines etc. On the court, captains are responsible for the pre-game coin-toss to determine serve, both captains will score keep during the match, and captains will report scores at the end of each match. Captains are responsible for enforcement of rules by members of their team.
Health & Safety Note: At this time, all athletes must wear masks at all times during competition. Clean balls and sanitizing stations will be provided. Please avoid unnecessary contact (high fives, physical celebrations) during play. Team captains will be held responsible for teams not following guidelines.
Playoffs
Playoff matches will have a best 2-of-3 (21/21/15) format. Games are all rally point, win by 2 points, with a hard cap at 23 (Hard cap at 17 in the 3rd match). Playoff matches may be timed if necessary

- There must be at least 1 girl and 1 boy on the court at all times. If a team fails to meet the minimum, they default the game, but may play an exhibition match short-handed.
- Teams will only call fouls committed by their own players. Players will not call the fouls against their opponents. If there is a dispute on a call, re-serve the play. Team captains are expected to calmly discuss and resolve any disputed points.
- There are NO court position restrictions or requirements in 4’s volleyball, but service rotation must remain the same throughout a single game.
- Games are played on a Jr Boys net height (2.35m)
- All balls must be hit cleanly. No two-touch or carrying the ball. Only a driven ball/serve may a ball be legally double-hit (i.e. off arm and head in one continuous motion).
- Contact with the net (except for hair) in any way constitutes loss of point. A player that goes under the net but does not contact the net or interfere with the play is okay.
- A served ball may not be blocked, attacked, or set over the net.
- Boys can only spike from behind the 3m attack line. Boys can only block other boys. Boys can jump from in front of the attack line in order to block an opposing boy player’s attack. These restrictions do not apply to girls (girls can hit from any location and can block anyone).
- No Open Handed Tipping: Players who contact the ball with one hand and are putting the ball over the net must cleanly hit a roll shot OR closed hand tip. One handed placement or redirection of the ball with the fingers (dink or open-handed tip) is a fault.
- A ball may not be set over the net.
- Matches will be timed based on the number of games to play within an evening (20-30 minute matches). Games are played to 21. A complete set win is worth 2 points. If the whistle blows PRIOR to the end of a match, and the combined score is more than 10, the set is worth 1 point. Captains should report their scores to the board between every match.
- Depending on the number of teams registered, league standings will be tiered (Divisions A, B, C, etc.). Finishing first in your division will result in a promotion to a higher division, while finishing last in your division will result in demotion to a lower division.
